The Different Oklahoma City Garage Door Systems

When choosing a new residential garage door for your home you may not realize how many choices you really have. Besides all the great design choices you have, you also have a choice on which type of garage door opener system. There are three types of door opening systems, a screw drive, chain drive, and a belt drive. All of these opener systems work in similar ways, but you may find reasons why you prefer one system over another.

A screw drive is great if you are looking for an opening system that is low maintenance. The reason it is low maintenance is due to the fact that it has limited moving parts. This type of garage door opening system consists of a lifting mechanism. It moves along a threaded steel rod and is mounted in the center of the garage ceiling. This is a very common type of opening system used today because it is so low maintenance. A great advantage to a screw drive opener is that it moves very smoothly. This is not a big deal, but to some it may make the difference.

The second type of garage door opener system is the chain drive. This system is installed above the garage door rather than in the middle of the garage. It uses a metal chain to live the door using twin tracks. There are some disadvantages to this type of door though that has been reported. One disadvantage is that it tends to slack a little after time. It is not that the chain is stretching, it is just that after vigorous use lifting a heavy door, the chain starts to become slightly loose making the extra slack. This is easily fixed though in about ten minutes. Also, this chain does have the chance of breaking. But, we must say that the chain will most likely only need to be fixed twice in the lifetime of the door. And it is very rare for the chain to actually break, but it is possible.

The last type of opening system available is the belt drive. Similar to the chain drive, it is also mounted directly above the garage door rather than in the middle of the garage like the screw drive. This type of drive though does offer one thing that the others do not. Rather than using chains it uses rubber belts to lift and lower the door.

When purchasing a new garage door in Oklahoma City, make sure you get the type of opening system that fits your home best. They all do the same job just in different ways. So make sure to read up on each type available and make the choice that will suit you best.
